UMe ha anunciado «Pete Townshend Live In Concert 1985-2001«, una caja de 14 CD y una colección digital que incluye siete álbumes en vivo agotados desde hace mucho tiempo del guitarrista y compositor de The Who, Pete Townshend.

Recién remasterizado por Jon Astley, el set reúne por primera vez todas las grabaciones en vivo en solitario que sólo estaban disponibles a través del sitio web de Pete Townshend. Todos los álbumes han estado agotados durante dos décadas.

La caja presenta un empaque de lujo en una caja del tamaño de un CD con arte nuevo del colaborador de Townshend, Richard Evans, notas de portada del archivero de la banda Matt Kent, una nueva entrevista exclusiva con Pete Townshend y fotografías y recuerdos raros en un libro de tapa dura.

Todos los conciertos incluidos en esta caja se lanzaron previamente en línea a través de la compañía de Pete, solo hubo una tirada de cada CD y todos se convirtieron rápidamente en artículos de colección. Si bien Townshend a menudo ha realizado breves conciertos en solitario por motivos benéficos para, entre otros, Amnistía Internacional, The Prince’s Trust y la organización benéfica Double O de Pete, que ayuda a las víctimas de abuso doméstico y a quienes sufren de adicción, las exposiciones han sido pocas y espaciadas. Cuando Pete organiza una concierto individual completo, los setlists se seleccionan de su propia producción, canciones específicas de Who y versiones de artistas que lo han influido a lo largo de los años.

Hablando de actuar en solitario o con una banda que no fuera The Who, Pete Townshend dijo: «siempre tengo demasido que hacer, demasiada responsabilidad y poco tiempo. Tengo que vivir suficiente vida que me proporcione inspiración y contexto para mis canciones, luego tengo que pasar suficiente tiempo en el estudio de mi casa perfeccionando las canciones para que se sientan dignas de mi banda, luego tengo que volver a grabarlas con esa banda y luego hablar elocuentemente sobre ellas a los medios, justificando mis divergencias creativas, entonces debo hacer giras interminables apoyando los nuevos temas, continuar celebrando también el material antiguo, y luego comenzar de nuevo con la idea de que haría todo eso para The Who y luego lo haría para mí mismo. Bueno, es simplemente una locura. Y, sin embargo, durante un tiempo lo intenté y no salió bien».

Como dice Matt Kent, archivero de The Who y Townshend: «cuando Pete Townshend presenta un concierto individual, no es sólo un concierto, es un evento. Estos CD representan lo buenos que son estos eventos».
